Curator

James Stewart founded Zimmer Stewart Gallery with John Zimmer to exhibit contemporary art by both emerging and established artists, selling to both private and corporate clients.

James Stewart curated over 150 at their base on Tarrant Street in Arundel, until the end of 2020 when the gallery went online only with the occasional pop up or art fair.

The Zimmer Stewart website contains a range of original works by mainly Sussex based artists plus an amazing selection of established artist editions by the likes of Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Bridget Riley, Patrick Caulfield and Peter Blake to make just a few.

James Stewart has been judge several times in national as well as local art competitions: In 2009 for the National Open Art Competition (Chichester) alongside Gavin Turk and Catherine Lampert (director of the Whitechapel Gallery): in 2010 for West Sussex Artist of the year with Gary Shipton, editor in chief of Sussex Newspapers; and in 2018 for the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.

James Stewart says “Having no permanent gallery space has freed me up to work on a range of art projects that would not have been possible otherwise”.
