Want to know how to get into the film industry? Own a ‘location-worthy’ house? We can help…

Anyone who has stayed in the cinema to watch the credits roll will realise how many people are involved in getting films onto the big screen.

But, did you know that one Arundel resident is the key contact for film companies wanting to shoot in Sussex?

Kelly Mikulla, the founder of the Sussex Film Office, is the lady to call for locations, props, crews and that vital insider knowledge that helps translate an idea to a finished film.

On Tuesday 15th October, AKIN is lucky enough to be hosting Kelly in conversation with co-vice chair Jane Mote – a chance to find out more about her fascinating work.

Read on for a sneak peek…

"I set up the company three and half years ago, to provide a one-stop-shop for film crews looking to use our great Sussex locations," explains Kelly. "I am still finalising the software for a database that will streamline this process for local councils, locations and suppliers."

In the meantime, Kelly has also been hard at work, bringing film magic to life.

"There was this moment, two months after starting, when I was given the script for a feature film starring Luke Goss, from Bros," says Kelly. "I went from sourcing locations to being a producer on the film, and at that point, I knew this was a real launchpad for me."

Kelly will be sharing stories about film shoots – the good, the bad and the funny – on Tuesday. And providing advice for anyone who wants to get into the film industry.

"I am an accountant by training," she explains. "So, I didn't train for this. But the industry is booming, and there is a real demand for film crew.

Our stunning surroundings are also sought after, with a long list of shoots including season 3 of The Crown and MotherFatherSon taking place in Sussex.

Kelly matches films with locations and is always on the lookout for industrial, commercial and residential locations to add to her database.

To find out more about Kelly’s work, how to get into the industry and how to get your location listed with the Sussex Film Office, join us at 7pm in the Victoria Institute on Tarrant Street on Tuesday 15th October.

We look forward to seeing you there.
