Michael Trew - Commercial Creative Series #2
Papershake's Michael Trew reveals the inner workings of an origami master!
Sometimes you listen to a creative person speak and their words carry you into the world inside their head. You get a feel for their inspirations and how they make ideas a reality.
That was the definitely the case when Michael Trew came to Arundel to tell AKIN members about his journey from teenage origami enthusiast to world-renowned paper artist.
Michael’s talk took in everything we thought we wanted to know about origami and so much more we could never have imagined.
We learnt how many hours it takes a talented team to make giant paper roses for Michael Kors’ shop window displays around the world and the secret to the perfect paper fold.
A little clue – it’s all in the maths. Never has maths been as fascinating!
Michael had this to say of his Akin experience
"Being part of a creative community in London has been key to my creative, personal and professional development over the last few years. Though creative people often need to "go deep" into their work which can by nature be a soliarty act, I'm convinced it's essential to also be part of a community or ecosystem that encourages idea sharing, friendship and collaboration.
It was a delight to see this happening through the Akin collective in Arundel and to be able to share something of my story over the last 7 years as a full time Origami/Paper artist.
I was also rather taken by Arundel and the local area too so I'm sure I'll be back soon to take in the fresh air and explore the castle and sights! "
